SIM Global Education: The Elevator Pitch
Tell me about yourself.
The universally nerve-wrecking question that every job applicant will face in an interview.
How does one actually start?
When SIM Global Education approached us to pitch for a series of videos featuring their top students in an “elevator pitch”, we were intrigued by this premise and sought out to find the best way to pitch for this project.
We ultimately decided to base our idea around 3 types of students:
“The Engineer”, “The Businessman” & “The Creative”
We also wanted the video to be treated with a blend of realism infused with some offbeat quirkiness to keep the overall tone light-hearted and fun, while still getting it’s message across.
With realistic elements being the selected lift and the contents of the script/pitch, this was juxtaposed with creative, quirky elements such as bold & loud title cards, students with distinct personalities and a fun light-hearted music track.
Overall, we want to keep this video visually fun & exciting while still communicating it’s key idea to the audience.
We planned alll 3 videos have a consistent style, with bold opening titles to exude the same confidence we are about to see from the student’s pitches.
The video was proposed to mainly have 2 distinct angles, the main frontal angle and a “CCTV” top down angle that overlooks the students. The second angle breaks from the traditional single frontal shot of the speaker giving their elevator pitch, giving the audience a fresh take on an elevator pitch as well as enabling us to edit the videos in quicker pace.
Our resident producer/writer, Stephen, was a graduate of SIM Global, University at Buffalo.
Using his experience as a past student, we drafted up a mock elevator pitch script to showcase our understanding of the main content of these videos.
It was quite a challenge to source of an actual lift to film in, especially if we were intending to rig up lights and a camera.
Most buildings were either open to public or their resident workers, so the only possible timings were after hours with a short window to shoot our video.
We were fortunate enough to have been part of the Bloomr,SG MCN Accelarator programme 2022, which helps to engage and help local talents build sustainable careers in social-first content through workshops and training modules.
This enabled us to get a contact from Medicorp to allow us to film in their elevator space, the other elevator was provided by our client SIM Global.
Thanks to our amazing crew, we were able to efficiently film this series of videos smoothly!
